Gov. Walz Calls for Probe, Reduction of Federal Forces in Minnesota
According to a statement from Walz’s office, the two officials “agreed on the need for an ongoing dialogue and will continue working toward those goals.” Walz also requested that the federal government halt “the campaign of retribution against Minnesota” and designated the Minnesota Department of Public Safety as the primary point of contact with Homan to ensure these objectives are achieved.
The meeting follows Trump’s Monday announcement that Homan would be sent to Minnesota after two deadly shootings of Americans by immigration enforcement officers, which triggered widespread protests. The White House stated that Homan would oversee ICE operations on the ground “to continue arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens.”
Trump indicated that Governor Walz had requested collaboration on criminal enforcement matters, noting that they “seemed to be on a similar wavelength.” Earlier, the president had urged Minnesota officials to allow ICE agents to continue their work, citing the arrest of 12,000 undocumented criminals and warning that the presence of remaining undocumented individuals could result in “something far worse than you are witnessing today.”
