Ilhan Omar Gets Assaulted at Minneapolis Town Hall
As the Minnesota Democrat was speaking, an unidentified man rushed toward the stage and appeared to spray her with a clear liquid. Security personnel quickly intervened, tackling and restraining the individual. Omar was visibly shaken by the incident but did not sustain any injuries.
It was unclear what the man was shouting as he was escorted out of the room or what substance he used during the confrontation.
The disruption took place while Omar was sharply criticizing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, calling for her resignation or impeachment, and discussing the dismantling of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
After the interruption, Omar returned to the podium and resumed her remarks, despite those nearby urging her to step away so she could be checked. One person in the room was heard saying the liquid smelled “so bad.”
“We’re going to keep talking. Please, don’t let them have the show,” Omar told the audience.
She went on to say, “Here’s the reality that people like this ugly man don’t understand — we are Minnesota strong, and we will stay resilient in the face of whatever they might throw at us.”
Attempting to calm the room as tensions lingered, Omar added, “Everybody settle down. Gonna finish my remarks,” before stressing, “It is important for me to continue to lead my Democratic colleagues in demanding her (Noem’s) resignation.”
