Trump Says Immigration Enforcement in Minneapolis to De-Escalate

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that federal immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis will “de-escalate a little bit” following public outrage over the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse. Speaking in an interview, Trump framed the change as a personnel adjustment rather than a pullback, citing a shake-up of leadership now overseen by White House border czar Tom Homan, who he said can work cooperatively with local governors and mayors.

Trump described the Pretti shooting as “terrible,” while emphasizing that he did not approve of the victim carrying a fully loaded firearm with additional magazines. He also referred to an earlier incident involving Renee Good, who was fatally shot earlier this month by federal agents, calling both deaths “terrible.” Trump rejected the use of terms labeling Pretti an “assassin” and called for an “honest investigation” into the incidents.

The de-escalation comes amid growing political and public scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement tactics in Minneapolis, with city and state officials demanding accountability, transparency, and improved coordination to prevent further violent outcomes.
